Maternal Assistance

Council of Community Services

  • Food pantry can be used once per month. Individuals will need to provide proof of residency, ID, or letter if enrolled in Early Head Start. You can go to the Section 8 office for application and assistance in completing application.

  • Financial assistance may be available for prescriptions, dental, and glasses.

  • Can grant individuals access to the homeless shelter. Residents sleep at the shelter during nighttime hours, must spend daytime hours in search of employment or alternate housing opportunities.

  • Soup kitchen is open daily at noon, except for July 4th.

  • Can assist with completing and submitting a LIEAP application.

  • Can provide financial assistance for people experiencing homelessness to help with rent or keep from getting evicted when available.

  • Narcotics Anonymous (NA) classes available 6 days a week.

  • Holiday food assistance – Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets available, one per family.

If you have an open DFS case, you may qualify for housing assistance and support services. To qualify, you must pay at least $285 in rent, and be referred through DFS.

  • Meets Tuesday evenings from 6-7 pm for 12 weeks.

  • Dinner is provided, and childcare is available upon request.

  • Focuses on celebrating women for choosing life, as well as supporting, empowering, and uplifting young moms.

  • At the end of the term, moms will receive a baby shower to celebrate completion of the program.

  • Thrift store that sells gently used clothing and other household items.

  • Families in need may qualify to receive items for free in emergency situations.

  • Contact the Council of Community Services to obtain a voucher for free items and to see if you qualify.

  • Provides low-cost transportation to the public.

  • Rides MUST be arranged in advance, preferably 2-3 days ahead of time.

  • Individuals fill out paperwork at Senior Center to request assistance and to set up schedules.

  • Rides cost $4.00 each stop for in town travel, and $7.00 each stop for travel outside city limits.

  • Can take children alone if parent provides car seat. (no infants) Parent must take car seat out of the vehicle when they arrive.

  • They pick you up at home and you call, and they send someone to pick up when done.

  • Nutrition assistance – may be able to help individuals purchase or locate resources for groceries or individual meals, including holiday meals.

    • Applicants will need to provide an ID.  If an ID is not available, professional organizations may be able to call to verify the referral.

    • Applicants will explain their need, and then a committee will determine how they will be able to provide support.  They usually can give small amounts of financial assistance to help with rent, utilities, small supply of food, or needs for a young child.

  • Programs include Burial Benefits, Cash Assistance (TANF), Childcare Assistance, Child Support Services, Food Assistance (SNAP), Housing, Utilities, and Energy Assistance (LIEAP).

  • Agency workers also assist with foster care, adoption, emergency placement/supervision, and Plans of Safe Care.

  • To qualify, you must live in Wyoming, have a nutritional need, and have a household income that fits the guidelines.

  • You may also qualify if you currently receive POWER, SNAP, or Medicaid.

  • Mothers, fathers, guardians, or foster parents may apply for WIC for their qualified children.

Youth Emergency Services (YES House)

  • Purpose is “To provide funding for the programs, children and families, equipment, building and expansion needs of the Youth Emergency Services, Inc. to better serve the Gillette, Wyoming Community.”

  • Learn and Grow is an after-school program for elementary students, in which staff assist children with academic skills and help build relationships.

  • The Transitional Living Program helps homeless youth, ages 16-21, receive life skills training, educational and career support, housing assistance, counseling, and preventive health trainings to become responsible, independent adults in the community. Youth under age 18 are eligible to be housed at the Crisis Shelter and/or Group Home. Young adults are assisted in finding a permanent, affordable apartment. All participants attend life skills group weekly and work one-on-one with their case manager to set and achieve their goals.

  • Independent Living Program - Youth through age 21 receive life skills training, educational services, housing assistance, financial, personal and emotional support.

  • H.O.P.E. (Helping Our Parents Excel) Nurturing Program provides families with the opportunity to build healthier relationships by learning about the biological, emotional, social growth of adolescents, and how this affects decision-making abilities, self-esteem, and social and emotional relationships.

  • The Group Home provides youth with physical safety, meaningful learning experiences, and the opportunity to grow continuously by providing individual and family counseling, group therapy, independent living/life skills, educational groups, as well as a mentoring program.

  • The Crisis Shelter is available to youth ages 10 to 17 and their families on a 24-hour basis. While at the Crisis Shelter, youth continue to attend school, participate in corrective thinking and life skills groups, study time, volunteer in the community, and do chores. The intent of a time-out period is to provide an opportunity for all family members to regroup, re-evaluate, and resolve the issues and conflicts that resulted in the need to access a placement with our facility.

  • The Family Resource Center serves as a crucial support system for families, offering a range of services aimed at fostering family well-being. It provides referrals and connections to essential community resources, parenting workshops, direct family assistance, and a welcoming space for families to connect, learn, and grow together.

  • Provides a variety of services to meet the needs of those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault.

  • Free and confidential to anyone who calls.

  • Temporary crisis shelter is available for people leaving dangerous situations (undisclosed location).

  • Crisis workers can assist with obtaining protection orders, communicating with court, etc.

  • Support groups meet weekly on Thursday mornings at 10:00.

  • Participants are invited to partake in the in-house counseling program

  • Legal aid services available for consultation. Will not assist with divorce, custody, visitation, etc., but can provide resources for the appropriate agencies.
